We Retain "The Bird"!
This year was FWCC’s turn to host our annual photo contest with the Dallas Camera Club, and for the fifth year in a row, we retain possession of the trophy. Each club entered twenty prints and twenty digital images which were judged live at our October 6th meeting. Judges Gabriel Alonso, David Thomason, and Jeremy Woodhouse gave each image one to five points with fifteen points being a perfect score. All the points were then totaled to determine this year’s winner.
Fort Worth outscored Dallas in the print class 178 to 165 and in the digital class 182 to 157 to win the contest and keep “The Bird”, a trophy handed back and forth to the winning club. Thanks to all who submitted images for the contest and a special thanks to those who brought food.
The final results were as follows:
Prints:
- 1st Place Eric Schoondergang (FWCC)
- 2nd Place Aimee Martin (FWCC)
- 3rd Place Ken Spencer (FWCC)
- HM Jim Kavanaugh (FWCC)
Digital Projection:
- 1st Place Eric Schoondergang (FWCC)
- 2nd Place Skip Jones (FWCC)
- 3rd Place Houston Brown (DCC)

FWCC in the 70's
History in a Nutshell
By Cher Ptacek
Michael Jackson was a mega-star—had been for years. Men permed their hair and strutted their stuff in polyester double-knit leisure suits and platform shoes. Women wowed their viewers with their hot pants, mini skirts, eyelet lace blouses with Victorian era sleeves, and platform soled shoes that would challenge any stilt walker. It was the 1970s, home to the rise of Disco music and Star Wars. In the early 70s, Polaroid introduced us to one-step instant photography with its SX-70. Digital imaging, however, was still over a decade away. In the late 70s, Konica introduced point and shoot cameras.
At the decade’s inception, the growing Fort Worth Camera Club celebrated their 40th anniversary. And now, through the informative and often humorous writings of the Viewfinder editors, we get a good look at what life was like for these Club members during the 70s. <read more>
